Introducing the new face of Education @ OM

It’s a new year and we have a new-look Education Team at Otago Museum. Education Manager Kate Timms-Dean and Education Officer Emily Gray are here to serve the education needs of Otago and beyond.

Kate has been working at Otago Museum for the past two and a half years as Education Officer and has been Education Manager since December 2016. Kate’s background is in tertiary education and she taught at both the University of Otago and Otago Polytechnic. She has a doctoral degree in Māori Studies, having completed her PhD in language revitalisation in 2013.

For the last year Emily has been with the Museum in a front-line role as a Museum Guide. She has now taken over from Kate as Education Officer. In 2014 Emily completed her Master of Science degree, majoring in Zoology, from the University of Otago. She researched bush bird use of urban vegetation. Prior to this she spent two years teaching in Taiwan.

Kate and Emily are looking forward to a busy year working with schools and educational institutions from Otago and Southland.
