Physical Description

Wooden pipe with fitted mouth piece. External side of bowl carved with face - realistic with 5 fingers on chin. Remainder bowl and stem decorated with raised edges and series of 'toothed' chevron pattern, this extends on to mouthpiece. Internal side bowl has small human face.

Research Notes

Accession information is contradictory. It states the owner to be Hongi who maybe one and the same as the paramount chief of Nga Puhi Some further research might be able to clarify this point of original ownership. —Mr Mat Ellison
