Wooden, carved stool. Fine, light wood, smoothly finished. Thin, curved seat, four small triangles incised on top. Middle section, two vertical straight sections, with two bent supports. Flat, tiered base. Written on base : "Queen Mother's Stool, Ashanti".

Model of traditional Ashanti stool. Stools of this general style were (and to some extent still are) symbols of authority, symbol of one's standing within the culture. The specific design of each stool has specific meaning - tells a story, reflects a myth.
