Physical Description

Mandau. Short, straight single-edged blade, narrowest at hilt, widens towards point, then narrows on back in three curved steps, first two concave, last convex curve to tip. Plain, concave section one side, convex, decorated inlaid brass S-shapes (21) and 10 irregular circular shapes next hilt. Flat back, notched on reducing steps. Straight, unguarded wooden hilt, bound black resin next blade, cane grip, long carved one-sided pommel, decorated tufts of red and black hair. Straight, flat scabbard, red wood, bound rattan cane. Wood and animal skin sheath fitted to back; decorated hair, beads, coloured tufts. This contains a knife identical to Malay pisau ran. Long bone and wood hilt, short rough single-edged blade. Scabbard has rattan cane and cotton mount straps and bark toggle.
