Physical Description

French early 19C military sabre with Oriental inspired blade, markedly curved, blued chased and showing the remains of some gilding. 3.2cm wide at shoulder with slight tapering to point, single shallow side fuller for most of blade with groove along back edge. square backed, no markings; hilt knuckle-bow broken this is a single down-turned quillon and double languettes; the pommel extends into a back piece which sheathes the copper wire bound wooden grip. The pommel is oval and juts forward to receive the (missing) knuckle-bow; scabbard is gilt brass, recessed for languettes at mouthpiece. Ringed centre piece.
