Physical Description

Fragments of the skeleton of an elephant seal consisting of a tibia, left squamosal, a phalanx, a bag containing 6 peat stones and a bag of sediment from the collecting site.

Provenance

Peat sample and 5 round non gizzard stones found and donated with bones.

Field Collection

Found on beach within peat at Karitane. Proximal end of tibia was exposed, toe bone and ear bone were just under the surface.
