Children 14 years and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult while visiting the Otago Museum.

The Otago Museum is easy to find in the heart of Dunedin, on the Museum Reserve, opposite the University of Otago and just 15 minutes walk from the Octagon.

The Museum is strongly committed to enabling ease of access for all visitors, with all gallery and exhibition spaces – including Discovery World Tropical Forest – accessible by wheelchair and pram.

A free wheelchair is available for use – please enquire at the
Information Desk.

Paid metered parking is available on the streets surrounding the Otago Museum from $2 an hour. Parking is free on Sundays. For more information on parking zones and costs, visit:

Baby change facilities are available, as well as quiet spots
for breastfeeding.

The kids' area beside the Museum Café is the ideal place to keep the little ones entertained.

Children's activity sheets are provided at the Atrium seating areas, along with all the supplies the kids will need.

The Atrium picnic areas are perfect for enjoying your own food and drinks, or just taking a moment to savour the light open space
of the Museum.

The Museum Café is open from 9am to 5pm daily and offers a delicious range of lunch and snack options – as well as great coffee!

For cultural reasons we ask that you please do not take food or beverages into or through the Tāngata Whenua Gallery.

The Search Centre is full of fascinating things to spark your curiosity and resources to help understand the world around us. It’s a place ask questions and find answers, to explore, touch, read and discover.

Get your hands on touchable moa bones and more. Take a closer look at an array of specimens by using the videoscope and microscope, or browse through a large selection of interesting books and magazines.
