Waka Huia, D33.1783

Round ended, medium sized box. Box cross-section semicircular and lid flat. Lid had tongue on each end that fits into socket in box. Simple head on one end with no eyes, other end head missing. Ornamentation typical straps composed of three parallel raised ridges and one line of raised dots. Both base and lid divided in to quadrats. On base each quadrat has different complex pattern of straps but on lid they form a double spiral centred on the mid point (Divided into quadrats.). Wood Porokaiwhiri (Hedycarya arborea)
