Flute, D88.162

Physical Description

Length (approx. 323mm) of hollow, yellow, ribbed grass - not unlike a narrow shaft of bamboo. Slightly tapered. One end cut from 2 sides obliquely towards centre of shaft to serve as mouthpiece for blowing into hollow shaft. Other end (narrower end) closed with apparently original pith of plant. Approx. 34mm along shaft (from mouthpiece) a small rectangular opening has been cut into shaft. Another 42mm further a second rectangular opening has been cut into shaft. Likely these are finger holes to vary notes when air is blown through mouthpiece. Instrument appears to be unused and in good condition.
