Model, Drum, D88.230

Physical Description

Small carved wood model of drum. Natural light yellow coloured wood. Cylindrical shape with narrow cylindrical shaped appendage on bottom end to model '1st supporting leg of base of drum and flat smooth top end - to replicate appearance of animal skin drum head. 3 ball shaped appendages around mid-circumference of 'drum' are to replicate appearance of animal skin cords which apply tension to the drum skin head. Tension cords are represented by clustering of parallel vertical lines exiting from under drum skin head and terminating at ball shaped knobs. 2 separate 'bird head' 'clubs' are intended to be inserted in the side of drum body to form the 2nd and 3rd supporting legs of the drum as it rests on the ground. Actual drum thus supports itself allowing drummer the free use of both hands. Model drum appears as a good model of the actual type of Ashanti/Akan drum.
