Physical Description

Export ware, polychrome bowl. Rim outlined in yellow. On the inside of the bowl is a 2cm wide band just below the rim in a blue mosaic effect pattern. The rest is white with a bunch of flowers centre base. The outside has two large pictures of people in various activities and two smaller ones of flowers, all four enclosed in a blue patterned frame. Also odd flowers scattered.

Research Notes

Guangcai is the pattern color, used in Guangdong province for porcelain oversea trading. Normally for porcelain ware with Guangcai, its body would be made in Jingdezhen and color or painting would be further processed in Guangdong province to suit oversea market. for example, this bowl painting demonstrates the scene of harmonic family life, usually not the theme of traditional Chinese painting —Professor Kelun Chen
