Physical Description

Pointed canoe shaped box, medium size. Lid heavy and thick, flat underneath but quite domed on top, perhaps unfinished.
Decoration straps of raised dots separated by one raised ridge. Decoration in form of two double spirals in centre with rest of surface filled with coiled fern frond motif. Decoration on lid almost identical to that on box. Knobs on ends formed from 'Janus' heads with paua shell eyes in 7 of the 8 eye spaces. Heads executed in naturalistic style. The cross-section of the box plus lid is semicircular.
