Sword, Scabbard, D21.1082

Physical Description

Short sword - wakizashi or 'companion-sword'. Hilt bound with rayskin and wrapped in brown leather. Menuki in form of a bunch of flowers with gold blossoms. Plain kashira and fuchi. Iron (?) tsuba with a dragon (?) design. Openings for kogai and kozuka in the tsuba. Habaki (fitting on blade below tsuba) of silver-plated copper with design of chrysanthemum flower. Plain matte black scabbard with space for kozuka (absent). Kurikata present but cord is missing. Has semegane and ishizuki fittings in the style of tachi scabbard mounts. Temper line somewhat obscured, but is a fairly straight line. Overall the blade is quite straight with very little curve. Length of blade: 54cm. Overall length (minus scabbard): 74.5cm.
