419 Great King Street Dunedin, New Zealand

Necklace, D88.180

Physical Description

A strand of 40 brownish yellow beads. 38 of beads are of general oval/egg shape. The 2 end beads, i.e. at each end of the strand next to the clasp, are also oval but with a ring and handle carved on the end of each. A pastel orange many threaded string runs through the beads, tied off at the ends by a two part spring loaded metal clasp. The irregularity of size and shape suggests they are hand made. Irregularity of colour, surface texture (using hand lens), texture and irregularities within material, and fractures at hole ends could be properties of glass but suggest material could be gum/amber.
