Spear, Fish, D88.189

Physical Description

Hand smithed iron fish spear, i.e head of spear. No shaft. Tapered pointed end gradually widening to open end - to receive wooden(?) shaft. 12 barbs on either side (total 24 barbs}of shaft 'cut' off of main solid head and bent out and back. End to receive shaft has small hole in socket, likely through which to insert 'pin' to hold shaft. Also possible that hole is to hold a small diameter rope that could be used to 'play' fish as shaft fell away after game was harpooned.
