Physical Description

Tourist art, copy of Ashanti 'Aku aba' doll, i.e. fertility figure. Wooden, stylized figure of a woman, flat rounded face Africa/Ghana Donated by Dr Holdsworth, 35 Greenacres St, Macandrew Bay Collected from Ghana,coastal fringe near Accra where lived 1950s Wooden stylized carved female figure. Red, hard wood. Smooth finish, polished. Flat thick base. Long, cylindrical body Arms , short, horizontal, small breasts in the middle. Long neck, ringed (representing fat rings = wealth, health, prosperity). Very large, flat discs [sic] for head. Carved moon-shaped eyes, small nose and mouth.
