Sword, Scabbard, F53.121

Physical Description

Naval dress sword and scabbard. Ornate gilt knuckle guard with coat of arms. Lion head pommel. Blade single edged, wide fuller on each side, narrows to point. Blade decorated with star, naval symbols (anchor, etc) and floral decoration. Inscribed "PRESENTED TO LIEUT D'ARCY HAGGITT ON HIS PROMOTION TO THE DIVISIONAL STAFF N.Z.G.A.V BY THE DUNEDIN NAVAL ARTILLERY, 1905" Hinged piece on side of hilt fastens sword into scabbard. Scabbard is leather with gilt attachments. Two loops.
