Batten disease is a group of devastating inherited brain diseases, sharing symptoms with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s and causing seizures and blindness in children.

Associate Professor Steph Hughes, Department of Biochemistry, Brain Health Research Centre and Brain Research New Zealand, explains that until recently it was a certain death sentence. Now there are promising treatment options, moving us closer to curing these diseases and perhaps better understanding adult brain diseases as well.
